Following the success of last year's inaugural event, the HCSA Women’s Network event returned with full force earlier this month in London. The network was established to celebrate the achievements of women in procurement and supply chain across the NHS and wider healthcare sector while promoting connectivity, inclusion, opportunity, diversity, and the empowerment of change. These values were embodied throughout the event, brought to life by an inspiring lineup of guest speakers.

The event consistently emphasised key themes such as empowerment, inclusion, and opportunity. Throughout the sessions, speakers and panellists shared personal stories, career journeys, and reflections on challenges facing women in the workplace today. These discussions not only highlighted the ongoing efforts to support women but also offered insights into the broader issues colleagues encounter day to day.

Colleagues from NOE CPC and NHS Supply Chain: Facilities and Office Solutions attended the event and took the opportunity to build relationships, hear from a range of keynote speakers in the procurement world, and gain further understanding of common challenges. Here’s what Natalie Ledger, Head of Procurement Operations at NOE CPC, had to say about the event:

What was your highlight of the event?

“The main highlight of the event for me was the performance from the Shout at Cancer choir which closed the event. The choir is part of Shout at Cancer, the only charity in the world specialising in speech recovery and social reintegration after laryngectomy, via the use of singing, acting, and beatboxing techniques. They performed several poems and songs, which were both highly emotional and inspiring in equal measures.”

What were the main themes and subjects covered at this year’s Women’s Network?

“Many of the themes continued from last year's inaugural event around empowering change, inclusion, opportunity and supporting and celebrating women. A standout theme this year was 'Finding Your Tribe'—the idea of finding people who accept, support, and encourage you just as you are."

What did you come away with after the event?

“Dr. Sam Collins, founder of Aspire, gave a fantastic motivational address around 'Inspirational You'. The interactive session allowed delegates to share the traits they feel that they see in themselves and others. A key takeaway for me was learning to accept positive feedback graciously—not just saying 'Thank you,' but taking it further by saying, 'Thank you, I know…'"

Was there a particular speaker or session that resonated with you the most?

“I think for personal reasons, the session delivered by Dr Louise Newton on increasing awareness and knowledge of perimenopause and menopause. I have been following Louise on social media for over four years, but it was great to see those "wow, I can relate" moments from those in the audience when Louise was dispelling the myths and untruths about perimenopause and menopause and giving practical advice on next steps.”

The HCSA Women’s Network is challenging the status quo, striving to create a platform that addresses critical issues such as unconscious bias and stereotypes in the workplace. Through events like this, the network aims to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for women in procurement and supply chain.
