Estates and facilities are an integral part of the NHS, providing safe and secure spaces for staff to deliver excellent care and for patients to feel comfortable as they receive treatment.

Associations representing the majority of estates and facilities colleagues across the country have come together to launch the first National Healthcare Estates and Facilities Day today (15th June 2022).

The role of estates and facilities was highlighted during the pandemic as a staff group vital to the NHS, ensuring hospitals remained clean and safe spaces. Very often, members of the estates and facilities teams are the first people that patients and visitors will come into contact with, and they are as much a part of frontline healthcare as clinical colleagues. Nationally, estates and facilities services are estimated to make up 8% of the NHS workforce – that’s a huge 250,000 people.

NOE CPC’s Senior Category Manager for Estates and Facilities Jackie Williams said: “We welcome the opportunity to recognise the role that estates and facilities play within our health service. As a provider of healthcare estates services, we understand the importance of good practices and ensuring we provide the best services to the NHS. Very often these services are not what immediately comes to mind when people think about the NHS, but laundry services, waste management, catering, and security are just as vital to the smooth running of hospitals and care settings as doctors and nurses.”

NOE CPC has a varied portfolio of healthcare facilities management frameworks, many of which are free to access by the NHS.
