We have established this framework for all public sector organisations, including NHS organisations and local authorities, for use when commissioning and providing advocacy services, in order to meet their statutory obligations - and also any non-statutory requirements - in accordance with all relevant legislation, standards, and good practice.

Independent advocacy is an important part of the health and social care system, offering active support to people who are at risk of exclusion. Access to independent advocacy helps people say what they want, secure their rights, represent their interests, and obtain services they need – in relation to the health, social care, education systems and beyond.

Advocacy services are designed to support individuals in navigating the complex health and social care systems, ensuring they receive appropriate care and assistance. These services can be provided by individuals, organisations, or professionals trained in advocating for patients' needs and rights.
